• The metaphysical bent within a person is God’s gift, because through it he or she has the opportunity to get closer to God, provided the quest is diligently pursued. Do the people who are chosen to have such a disposition earn it in an earlier incarnation or are they given this advantage as a test?… And if they will not use the talent, will it not be given to them in the next incarnation?
In this teaching from the Pathwork Guide, the presence of a metaphysical or spiritual inclination is described as both a gift and a responsibility. Such openness may be the result of past efforts carried over from previous lives, or it may be granted as an opportunity for accelerated growth based on prior merits.
In either case, the individual must choose to develop it through conscious effort. If this opportunity is neglected—due to fear, laziness, or self-deception—the path becomes more difficult in the future, though never permanently closed.
Ultimately, spiritual connection depends on personal choice, and growth unfolds through willingness to engage, struggle, and align with deeper truth.
Jill Loree is the founder of Phoenesse and a longtime student of the Pathwork teachings. She has studied the Pathwork Guide’s material since 1997 and completed four years of training to become a certified Pathwork Helper.
When she first encountered the Pathwork teachings, she described the experience as “walking through the doorway of an AA fourth step and finding the whole library.”
Through Phoenesse, Jill writes and teaches about personal transformation using the spiritual psychology found in the Pathwork lectures.
Her books present these teachings in clear, accessible language to help readers apply them in everyday life. Her work focuses on helping people move from the struggles of duality toward the peace of inner unity.
Raised in northern Wisconsin, Jill began her professional career in technical sales and marketing before discovering that her true calling lay in spiritual teaching and writing.
She lives in New York with her husband, Scott Wisler, who now works with her in sharing these teachings around the world.
