For years, this marvel of nature stood towering above the pines, across the lake from my family’s cabin. It was captured, in all its glory, early one autumn morning by my brother Jeff. We call it the “Jesus tree.”

The year I lived in Richmond, I hiked over 600 miles throughout Virginia. Here we are passing a rare ice circle spinning slowly in the river, as temperatures hovered just above freezing. (2015)

Scott Wisler and I began dating at the end of 2016, and our book Word for Word was created from our first month of written-only communications. We visited Crater Lake National Park in Oregon in the summer of 2018 (shown here), and in September, he proposed. I said Yes!

Scott and I were married in June of 2019.
