This book opens with a different question: why are we so pulled toward being in relationship?

Relationships have an extraordinary power to affect us. They matter so much that countless books have been written, offering guidance and tools to find, nurture and maintain them.

So, one might reasonably ask: why another?

Most relationship books focus on improving relationships. This book opens with a different question:

Why are we so pulled toward being in relationship?

The Pathwork Guide approached the topic of relationship—as well as every human question—from a different direction. Whether offering lectures on a spiritual path to self-realization or answering general questions about life, the Guide gave insights and answers aimed at awakening ever-deeper levels of our psyches.

When we bring awareness to these deeper aspects within the psyche, we begin to flourish. Then relationship can flourish as well—creating deeper union between partners.

The Pull explores relationship as an essential part of human and spiritual development. Rather than asking how to find and fix relationships, we ask how and why relationship affects us so deeply.

Why are we attracted to certain people, but not others? And why do the same frustrating struggles seem to repeat?

Our connections with others have the power to reveal hidden parts of ourselves. When we pay attention at this level, relationship becomes a powerful vehicle for spiritual growth and transformation.

Relationship then serves as a gateway to union with all that is.

The Gateway Prayer

Through the gateway of feeling our weakness lies our strength;

And through the gateway of feeling our pain lies our pleasure and joy;

Through the gateway of feeling our fear lies our security and safety;

And through the gateway of feeling our loneliness lies our capacity to have
fulfillment, love and companionship;

Through the gateway of feeling our hate lies our capacity to love;

Through the gateway of feeling our hopelessness lies true and justified hope;

And through the gateway of accepting the lacks of our childhood
lies our fulfillment now.
