Waking Up
What it is
Waking up is the gradual process of becoming conscious of what was previously unconscious. It is awakening to the truth of who we are, of how life works, and of the divine presence within us.
Why it matters
Awakening unfolds gradually through thousands of moments of awareness, honesty, humility, courage and willingness. What may appear to be a sudden breakthrough is actually the flowering of all the growth that has come before.

Any spiritual path that encourages us to reach our true home without going through difficult territory is full of wishful thinking. There’s simply no way around what lies within, poisoning our whole system—spiritual, psychological, and often physical.
Once we wake up to this reality, we’ll start to come more alive. (Chapter 2)
~2~
When we unify knowing and feeling, we mend our inner fragmentation and feel better. We wake up, becoming more integrated and whole. (Chapter 2)
~3~
When we cover up our Lower Self, we add even more distance between us and the ultimate truth of our divine self. In the end, there’s no way around it: If we want to get at our Lower Self—so we can transform it—we must dismantle the Mask Self.
We can train our inner eyes to see ourselves and others from this point of view. Then the more we wake up, the more we will perceive. (Chapter 3)
~4~
In the end, our resistance to giving up the parts of ourselves we hate the most is caused by our wrong identification. Yes, we’re obstinate and spiteful. But that’s not the crux of the problem.
These things only harden our position, further entrenching our fear of annihilation. In doing so, they strengthen the self-perpetuating circles of negativity. Our world gets smaller, and the worst in us seems to be our reality.
We need to wake up and see all this. (Chapter 17)
