Truth
What it is
The Pathwork Guide often uses the words “truth” and “reality” almost interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference. Truth is the nature of God—the way things truly are. Reality is our experience of life. As long as we live in duality, our experience of reality is limited by illusion, which is always based on untruth.
Why it matters
Every distortion, image, fault and conflict reflects a separation from truth. Every insight, act of courage, and willingness to feel our feelings realigns us with truth. As we reawaken to truth, our experience of reality changes. We gradually exchange the temporary reality of duality for the experience of true reality.

~1~
The truth is, it’s basic human nature to love and to be joyful. If we find ourselves feeling hateful and in despair, we’ve lost our connection to our inherent nature to know that this is a benign, safe universe. (Chapter 18)
~2~
Truth is, if we want happiness, we will need to be able to give happiness. And how can we do that if we can’t feel? (Chapter 1)
~3~
We can’t get to truth by avoiding making mistakes. (Chapter 1)
~4~
Any prayer to know the truth will always be answered. (Chapter 4)
~5~
We can think of intellect and will as temporary tools. They give our actions and intentions direction. Further, they are very helpful in navigating the physical world and deciding to learn the truth about ourselves.
But we can’t use them for everything. (Chapter 5)
~6~
The truth and beauty of the present moment get wrung out of life by our squeezing it into a mold of the past. (Chapter 5)
~7~
As long as our flaws are still separating us from the truth—and therefore from true reality—we’ll have to return to these conditions. For here in duality, our state of illusion is the norm. This state, in turn, creates the right environment for us to learn and grow and overcome our illusions. (Chapter 11)
~8~
We can ask God to help us see ourselves in truth, dropping the distorted filter we generally reserve for ourselves. Also, we can ask God to inspire us to react in the right way to enlightening revelations about ourselves.
We can ask for guidance in receiving unpleasant truths from others so that their input can be used in a productive way. (Chapter 12)
~9~
Once we see that there is no injustice, we will be able to realize that it’s not God or the fates that force us to suffer due to others’ shortcomings. It’s our own ignorance, our own fear, and the pride of our own weak ego…
If we find this hidden link, we will come to know the truth. For one thing, we’re never a prey to circumstances or other people’s imperfections. For another, we really are the masters of our own destiny. (Chapter 14)
~10~
The yes-current contains all the good stuff. It aligns with truth, and it breeds love and unity. (Chapter 15)
~11~
Sometimes we block ourselves from pursuing faith because it’s not the fashion of the day. So we keep a closed mind to avoid being ridiculed. Just as frequently, people won’t listen for answers to honest questions because they fear there won’t be any.
They don’t want to find out there’s nothing beyond what we can hold in our hands. In their fear, they can’t let go enough to be open and receptive.
True answers can’t arrive if we shut our inner doors. We have to become ready to listen. But fearing bad news, we remain in our tight position. We vacillate and theorize, teetering on the edge of an apparent abyss.
For we are terrified of making a commitment to knowing the truth. (Chapter 18)
