Out-picture

What it is

An out-picturing is what our lives are reflecting back to us. The events, relationships and recurring patterns we experience outwardly mirror the attitudes, emotions and mistaken conclusions we carry within.

Why it matters

Rather than asking, “Why is this happening to me?” the Pathwork invites us to ask, “What is being out-pictured?” What inner attitude or mistaken conclusion is my life reflecting back to me?

~1~

Our spiritual work, which comes in answer to our prayers, arrives in the form of a conflict or a friction. Something happens that makes us feel we’re being treated unjustly. This will give us a chance to recognize our inner errors and purify our souls.

How could we ever see our inner conflicts if they weren’t out-pictured in front of our eyes? That’s the only way for us to see what lies hidden in us, deviating from divine law. (Chapter 4)

~2~

We must see what our lives are reflecting back to us. What is being out-pictured? Then we must correct the inner errors that are hard to admit. We can then view them as being good and constructive medicine.

We’re not victims. And we don’t need to fight to make ourselves perfect. But we do need to fight to become more whole.

By working this way and applying these truths, we can set ourselves free. (Chapter 19)
