BIBLE ME THIS: Releasing the riddles of Holy Scripture through questions about the Bible

The Bible is confusing for many of us. It’s like the Riddler teasing Batman with his “riddle me this” taunts. But what if we could understand the Bible better?

Bible Me This is a collection of in-depth answers to a variety of questions people asked the Pathwork Guide about the Bible.

Here is the Pathwork Guide’s call for questions:

“It would be most helpful and beneficial for you, my friends, if you became more familiar with the Bible. I am most eager and willing to help you understand this great document. To disentangle for you what belongs on which level.

For this great book is a combination of fragments of historical accounts; of symbolic meanings; and of the greatest truths; of distortions deriving from human limitation of consciousness; of existing cultural conditions that were “right” at that time, but are no longer so today.

I would like to lift up the jewels of truth contained in this book, separating the grains from the husks. So that you can appreciate and benefit from the timeless wisdom of these messages. I suggest that you ply me with questions. You have a whole month to prepare. And I promise you that I will give you interpretations. These answers will be most useful and helpful for everyone. This will open a new horizon for you.”

— The Pathwork® Guide lecture #243

Even with its errors, the Bible has no equal. Few people can grasp the meaning that exists on all levels.

Introduction to Bible Me This

1 Understanding the Bible | Podcast

Everything in the Bible—the Old as well as the New Testament—can be interpreted on many levels. Reading meaning on one level of the Bible does not invalidate the others. So we can find meaning on each of these planes. That's when we will discover how artful Holy Scripture is in the way it has been constructed.

2 Understanding myths | Podcast

People are often mistaken about what myths are. Over half of us think of them as inventions, fantasies, fairy tales or lies. The real meaning of myth is quite different from this.

3 Myth: Tower of Babel | Podcast

The conditions of this world are the sum total of what's going on inside the people who live here. It is largely a jumble of confusion, blindness, wrong conclusions and contradictory aims. Then the outer confusions and problems confound us, because we ignore how they are being conditioned by our inner ones. As a result, we fail to connect cause and effect. As a result, we can't make sense of all this "Babel."

4 Myth: Adam & Eve | Podcast

Men and women often see themselves as almost two different species. In truth, our differences are much smaller than we imagine. Let's look at how this is conveyed in the myth of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis. Here we have the masculine and feminine represented, which are the active and passive, respectively.

Yet in the story, we have Eve—which is the feminine and passive aspect—taking the first step toward the Fall of the Angels. Why is this so?

5a Biblical passages explained, Part One | Podcast

  • "He who wants to win his life will lose it. He who is ready to give it up will win it."
  • "Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it; And I will give thee the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever thou shalt loose on earth shall be bound in Heaven."
  • In the Book of Exodus, people were told to collect manna only for one day and on the Sabbath for two days. If they collected for two days on any other day but for the Sabbath, it rotted. But for the Sabbath, it did not.
  • "The meek shall inherit the earth."
  • "To those who have, more will be given, and to those who have not, what they have will be taken away."
  • "All things work together for the good for those who love God."
  • "Come as a little child."
  • "Turn the other cheek."

5b Biblical passages explained, Part Two | Podcast

  • "Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, he has no life in you."
  • "The word of God was given to Moses: Thou shalt give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning."
  • "For he that hath, to him shall be given; and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath."
  • "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth the man, but that which cometh out of the mouth."

5c Biblical passages explained, Part Three | Podcast

  • "But I say unto you. That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
  • "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee, for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."
  • "In the beginning there was the word and the word was God."
  • "But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me."
  • "Put up again thy sword into its place, for all that take the sword shall perish with the sword."
  • "The beast with ten horns and seven heads, ten crowns and a blasphemous name on each head… "
  • "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
  • "Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more than raiment?"

6 Commandments explained | Podcast

The Guide offers insight for understanding the deeper meaning of the following commandments:

2) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
4) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5) Honor thy father and thy mother.
6) Thou shalt not kill.

7 Reincarnation in the Bible | Podcast

Early Christians understood reincarnation as a reality. Later, church fathers saw how the knowledge of reincarnation was misused in Eastern traditions.

The intention behind removing this teaching from the Bible was to combat a lazy, fatalistic attitude. This kind of fatalism hindered people's development.

But the opposite extreme—denying the truth of reincarnation—brought about another damaging attitude which has also hindered our development.

8 Baptism | Podcast

But before a spirit can be reborn, it must repent. For if we can't recognize our own Lower Self, how can we know the harmful effects we have on others?

When we decide to do this—to change our ways—our feelings will change. Our thoughts and the direction of our will are going to shift. Then we will truly be reborn of water and spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ.
